Scope and Background
Recently global economy has faced numerous challenges, including environmental pollution, climate change, various social issues, and corporate governance problems. These events have made sustainable development goals and corporate social responsibility highly significant topics for governments, businesses, and academic institutions. Issues related to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) have also gained significant attention. In order to accelerate the promotion of corporate sustainability among listed companies, Taiwan government has required listed companies with a paid-in capital of at least 2 billion NTD to disclose sustainability reports starting from 2023. These reports aim to reveal the significant economic, environmental, and social issues identified by the companies. In contrast to the traditional perspective of maximizing shareholder value, nowadays achieving long-term corporate sustainable development goals has become a common concern among industry, government, and academia.
